How to Wash a Boppy Lounger

The boppy lounger is a true lifesaver when your little one is awake, especially when you need to be hands-free, like making dinner, working out, washing your hair, or doing chores around the house. They are easy to carry with you when you go to your family or friends’ houses, so your baby can relax when awake.

They are important for preventing positional asphyxia in children, so having them is especially useful for their health.

But here’s the deal, what happens when they get dirty. Oh yes, the struggle of every mom, how to wash the boppy lounger and especially if it’s for the first time.

How to do it, what to use, can I put it in the washing machine? And all those questions. Don’t panic cause we will give you the easiest step-by-step guide on how to make it look brand new.

In most cases, boppy loungers can be perfectly cleaned in a washing machine; however, if it’s not suitable for the type you are using, then there is an alternative method that works the same.

How to Wash a Boppy Lounger

How to Wash a Boppy Lounger: Step by Step Guide

The boppy lounger is super comfortable for your babywearing as it doesn’t have zippers or buttons, and its surface is easily cleaned in case it gets dirty.

We aren’t going to ramble around too much cause we know you, busy moms, so we will divide our guide into two simple steps. The process is quick and doesn’t require special equipment or products, you’ll be able to clean it with the product you already have in your kitchen.

How to remove the stubborn stains

If you have some hardcore stains on the fabric, you need some profound treatment to disappear, and your boppy lounger looks brand new again. In this case, the best solution is the universal mix of lemon juice and baking soda.

To remove the hardcore stains, follow these instructions carefully:

  • Mix ½ cup of lemon juice with baking soda to make a fizzing paste
  • Dampen the washcloth a little to wet the stain, but be careful not to put too much
  • Get a clean toothbrush and dip it in the mixture, then apply it to the stains
  • Let it sit for 15 minutes to half an hour
  • Apply more of the paste to the stain and brush it with circular motions until they fade
  • Dampen the washcloth to wipe down the excess residue
  • You might need to repeat this process twice in case the stains don’t come off

Washing the boppy lounger in a washing machine

If your boppy lounger doesn’t have a cover and the instructions recommend washing it, you can safely clean it in a washing machine. However, this is only recommended to do so when it’s necessary. But be careful to put the suitable program the manufacturer has recommended. Otherwise, you might risk losing its shape.

While washing, you can use a small blanket or soft cloth to cover the lounge to use it still and put your baby on it.

Two things you should keep in mind are that you need to wash the boppy lounger by itself. It’s important since washing it with other items might affect its shape. Secondly, always wash it on a delicate wash cycle with cold water.

You’ll need mild laundry detergent and a dryer or tennis ball. Avoid using black and fabric softeners. Also, we recommend using low heat tumble.

To wash your boppy lounger in a washing machine, follow these steps:

  • Put your boppy lounger in the washing machine
  • Use mild laundry detergent, recommended for washing baby items
  • Put the delicate/gentle/hand washing program with cold water (85F/30C)
  • After it’s done, hang the boppy lounger to dry naturally outside
  • If you don’t have that much time, it’s still safe to put it in a dryer
  • Put 2-3 dryer balls in the dryer and use the delicate cycle

On average, it should be fully dry for about an hour or potentially several hours if you let it air dry. Ensure that you don’t leave the pillow damp since you might risk getting mold and bacteria into it.

Use covers

Well, this wasn’t that unexpected. You’ve probably thought it yourself. Since boppy loungers don’t come with covers, you can use washable cloth or blankets underneath them. They always save the day when you spill food or drink on them.

Leave it outdoors so it can disinfect naturally

At least once a week or whenever you aren’t using the boppy lounger, it’s recommended to leave it outdoors to let the sunlight disinfect it naturally in front of the bacteria. Also, the natural air will give it a fresh smell.

Store it properly

Whenever you aren’t using the boppy lounger, store it in a bag and keep it away in a clean and dry space. This way, you can prevent dust and other bacteria from sticking to it. You can use sealed bags that keep the dust away.
