What Does a Cool Mist Humidifier Do for Babies

What Does a Cool Mist Humidifier Do for Babies?

One thing that I never knew as a new parent was that I needed to buy many devices, and one of them was a cool mist humidifier. At first, I thought it might be too expensive and useless a purchase, but then I decided to ask other parents for their opinion about whether I should invest in one.

At the end of the day, it turned out to be pretty beneficial, but what does a cool mist humidifier do for babies? For that matter, I decided to create this article so that you can learn everything. Thus, without any further ado, let’s get started!

What Does a Cool Mist Humidifier Do for Babies

What Does a Cool Mist Humidifier Do for Babies?

For all worried parents out there, let me get a clear answer. There is nothing you should be concerned about since these humidifiers are much safer options as they can keep healthy moisture in the air.

They allow the baby to breathe easier and possibly reduce the symptoms of colds, coughs, asthma, seasonal allergies, etc.

If you ask me, adding a cool mist humidifier in your baby’s room can be one of the wisest decisions you’ll ever make, and let me tell you why.

Cool mist humidifiers might help your infant breathe more easily by adding moisture to the air if you have central heating or live in a warm, dry region. Even though it might seem like a big purchase for you, it’s certainly worth the money.

Why Is Using Cool Mist Humidifiers a Good Idea?

If there is one thing that I especially recommend to all parents while assembling their baby’s room, it is adding a cool mist humidifier. However, when you are choosing one, make sure to measure the room dimensions first so that you can find the appropriate size.

I prefer cool mist humidifiers, which produce invisible moisture to the naked eye. Even though it might sound like no big deal to you, let me tell you about all the possible ways your baby’s health might benefit.

Might keep your baby safe from infections

As you probably know, viruses exist in the air, and the cool mist humidifier dries out the air, possibly preventing them from spreading.

If your baby already has affection, the cool air might significantly speed up the healing time, stopping sneezing and coughing.

Might protect your baby’s skin from drying out

Even though it might seem harmless, we parents underestimate the dry air and its effect on our little one’s skin. If it can cause damage to our ‘grown-ups’ skin, imagine what it can do to the gentle, sensitive one, especially in the colder months.

For example, from disrupting their sleeping because of itching, rashes, and skin dandruff to some severe conditions like eczema, which can sometimes turn into serious issues.

The cool mist humidifiers bring moisture back into the air, possibly allowing their skin to be naturally hydrated, preventing all of these issues.

Might help your baby sleep better and longer

I bet that most of you tired parents out there wish that your baby would sleep longer; after all, it’s their job. But what if your baby is constantly disturbed, and even if you try anything, they won’t fall asleep? One of the main reasons may be a stuffy nose and the dry air being too harsh on the throat.

Cool air humidifiers are just the perfect invention for this type of problem since the cool air might improve their breathing and make them fall asleep faster.

Tips for Using Cool Mist Humidifier

Tips for Using Cool Mist Humidifier

Besides knowing what a cool mist humidifier does for babies, you should consider some helpful tips about its use. Thus, what you should consider is:

Choose the right type of cool air humidifier

When choosing the right cool mist humidifier for your baby’s room, you must know that there are multiple types: ultrasonic, evaporative, and impeller.

One of the biggest advantages of cool mist humidifiers is that they don’t pose a danger of burns, and they don’t heat the water.

Use distilled water, not tap water

Even though tap water is generally considered safe, distilled water is better since it prevents mold colonies from creating inside the humidifier. Also, it can eliminate the humidifying dust in your home.

Also, ensure that you are emptying your humidifier tank every day and that you are changing the water regularly.

If your little one is suffering from nasal congestion, I advise you to add a saline solution, known as one of the most effective remedies. Also, eucalyptus might be effective and works great, opening up nasal packages.

Always ventilate your baby’s room to keep the air fresh

If you use the humidifier too frequently, keeping your baby’s room well-ventilated is important. This way, you’ll prevent indoor breathing mold, which can be very dangerous for your baby’s health.

When you want the air to get well humidified, you’ll always want to check whether it’s not becoming too moist.

Make sure it’s not too noisy

Logically, you don’t want to choose a humidifier that’s too noisy since you will achieve an adverse effect instead of your baby falling asleep; it will disturb them even more. Check its noise levels and make sure it’s appropriate for baby usage.

Personally prefer those that are known as white noise humidifiers as they create an ambient almost the same as when the baby was still in the womb.

Don’t place the humidifier too close to your baby’s sleeping spot

One of the most important things when placing the baby humidifier is to ensure it’s not too close to the baby’s sleeping spot so that you won’t expose the baby directly to the vapor.

Ideally, you would want to place it about 3-4 feet away from their sleeping spot. However, if your little one is suffering from a cold, I advise you to only turn on the humidifier for a short time.
